FREE: Autodesk University Extension—You Are Invited!
The Autodesk University (AU) conference held each year in Las Vegas is the world’s largest learning and networking event for Autodesk product users. But not everyone can travel to Las Vegas. So this year, Autodesk is extending the benefits of AU by sharing classes and content from the event with Authorized Training Centers (ATC®). The result is a new worldwide initiative called Autodesk University Extension—and Digital Drafting Systems is participating.
On December 4, 8, 9 & 10,, 2009, we are presenting an Autodesk University Extension event tailored to our community of users. This is a great new opportunity to upgrade your skills and connect with peers and experts—without the cost of traveling to Las Vegas. Our program is FREE and we invite you to join us.
NEW: Autodesk University Extension Event
Digital Drafting Systems’s Autodesk University Extension event combines expert-led class content from AU in Las Vegas with face-to-face interaction with local instructors and other users. At our event, you will receive:
- FREE training, including 3 on-line live classes and 5 classesrecorded classes recorded at AU in Las Vegas (see program below)
- 90 days of FREE access to 350 classes recorded at AU, archived on AU Online, and available to you on-demand.
Plus, you may purchase additional training and certification at significant discounts:
- Twenty percent (20%) discount on Autodesk Official Training Guides - Autodesk publishes dozens of titles every year designed to help users at all levels of expertise improve their productivity with Autodesk software.

Friday, December 4, 2009 - 11:30am-1:30pm -Wow! That Surface is Huge! Working with Large Surfaces - On-line Live Class. Builders are showing strong leadership in adopting BIM, and recognize its value in terms of improved efficiency and risk mitigation in the construction management process. Technology and new collaborative business processes are currently transforming the AEC industry in unprecedented ways. This class will focus on presenting the strategies, best practices and high-level workflows used by builders involved in using BIM tools (specifically Revit and NavisWorks) during the pre-construction and construction phase. Also addressed will be current trends on how builders are strategically implementing BIM on specific projects and throughout the enterprise, the importance of BIM standards and associated contractual language, and how BIM is used in various project delivery methods such as design/bid/build, CM at risk, design/build and IPD. Also presented will be examples of how builders are using BIM as a competitive advantage in a challenging economic environment.
Friday, December 4, 2009 - 11:30am-1:30pm -Parametric Design Modeling with Autodesk® 3ds Max® -On-line Live Class This presentation will show how to use 3ds Max modeling tools to build iterative parametric design systems. In this session, we will cover 3ds Max geometry types (Editable Mesh, Poly, Patch and NURBS), combine modifiers to build complex systems, use wire parameters to quickly make geometric patterns, and provide an introduction to MAXScript. In this session, you will learn to reduce the amount of explicit modeling, and instead build flexible design systems so you can focus more effort on design.
Friday, December 4, 2009 - 1:30pm-3:30pm -BIM Means Business! Using Autodesk® Revit® and Navisworks® in the Project Construction Management Process - On-Line Live Class Builders are showing strong leadership in adopting BIM, and recognize its value in terms of improved efficiency and risk mitigation in the construction management process. Technology and new collaborative business processes are currently transforming the AEC industry in unprecedented ways. This class will focus on presenting the strategies, best practices and high-level workflows used by builders involved in using BIM tools (specifically Revit and NavisWorks) during the pre-construction and construction phase. Tuesday, December 8, 2009 - 9am-12noon -AutoCAD Civil 3D: Survey Exposed! - Recorded Class Interested in teaching classes on-site and virtually? Learn how to take full advantage of the survey capabilities included in Autodesk Civil 3D. During this session we will dig into the tools and explore tips and techniques that will make any land surveyor successful! Special attention will be placed on field coding and field collection, processing and adjusting survey data, creating topographic surveys, and stakeout.
-Leveraging AutoCAD Civil 3D and Autodesk Navisworks to Bid and Build a more Efficient Project - Recorded Class Here's the scenario: we are a company that builds pipe networks using micro-tunneling technology. When we bid on projects, one of our main concerns is whether or not we will encounter materials under the ground at certain depths that would hinder tunneling. Actually, not only under the ground... but under the ocean! Even though the plans say one thing, we've done enough micro-tunneling projects to know that we will encounter materials that were not discovered during the design phase. In the past, based on our experience, we could estimate where we would encounter those types of materials. But now, we will use some of the coolest tools available from Autodesk to better visualize where those materials will be, and how we will construct our projects. We will use AutoCAD Civil 3D, along with Autodesk Navisworks, to very quickly see where we will encounter these different interferences, and to help us better plan the construction of our projects.
Wednesday, December 9, 2009 - 9am-12noon -Autodesk® Revit® Collaboration: Shared Coordinates for Projects Big and Small- Recorded Class- Recorded Class Revit has a sophisticated system that allows us to manage a project's true elevation, position, and location, and share this with our project partners. This class will explain how accessible this really is.
-Modeling Complex Surfaces and Structures Using the New Modeling Tools for Autodesk® Revit® 2010- Recorded Class Learn how to deal with complex geometry in Revit Structure. This course will go in-depth and have step-by-step instructions to teach you how to accurately model complex geometry using the new modeling tools in the concept modeling portion of Revit 2010. You will improve your knowledge of modeling complex geometry in Revit in order to meet your client's and project's needs. This class will benefit structural project managers, CAD/Revit managers, structural CAD/Revit modelers, as well as architects. Attendees should have general knowledge of Revit architecture or Revit Structure.
Thursday, December 10, 2009 - 9am-11am -Basic MaxScript for Architectural Visualization- Recorded Class MaxScript is a powerful and versatile tool that can be used to speed up repetitive tasks and often make the impossible possible. Getting started with it can be daunting, especially without any programming or scripting experience. This course will walk artists through some basic scripting concepts - from using the listener for simple commands to more involved scripts with interfaces. The primary focus will be to support arch vis artists and workflow. With utilities and scripted animation, attendees will leave with practical knowledge to make them a more effective Autodesk 3ds Max artist.
